Stories of the district

The Schlossvorstadt is an important district in the west of the historic old town of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. It extends between Wittenberg Castle and today's Lindenfeld district and forms a central administrative and service location.

In addition to administrative buildings, residential buildings, green spaces and public squares also characterize the cityscape. The square structure plays a central role in the quality of stay and urban identity of the district.

The Schlossvorstadt is a historically grown district with an eventful past. During the wars of liberation against Napoleon, the district was burned down by the Prussian army. A central memorial to these events is the Youth Square, which is now used as a sports field.

Today, the Schlossvorstadt is an important administrative and service center with good connections to the old town as well as to newer residential and commercial areas. Urban developments aim to preserve historical buildings while integrating modern infrastructure.
