Stories of the district

The place was first mentioned in documents in 965. The name “Pratau” is derived from the terms “Broth” or “Brotha” and originally meant “crossing” or “crossing through the Elbe”. Flemish people settled in the area in the 13th century.

A defining event in recent history was the founding of “Milka” Nährmittelfabrik GmbH by Emil Krüger in 1903. A few years later, in 1908, an oil refinery called “Pratana” was built, from which today’s “Lätta” production emerged.

Community life is largely influenced by the sports club “SV Blau-Rot Pratau e.V.” embossed. The Pratau Volunteer Fire Department also plays an important role and is actively involved in the community.

Pratau, a district of Lutherstadt Wittenberg since October 9, 1993, is characterized by a townscape that includes both traditional construction methods and more recent developments. Historically characterized by traditional architecture, the appearance has been supplemented by new buildings in recent decades. In the 1960s, a new development area with apartment blocks in the typical style of that time was built in the area around the Straße der Jugend. There is currently a fully developed industrial and commercial area in Pratau south of Wittenberg, which is directly connected to the federal highway network. This area offers both industrial and commercial space and is approximately 3 km from the city center.

Vision
