Read about the churches and their history
The Abtsdorf Church is an impressive example of modern architecture, built on the outskirts of Abtsdorf, surrounded by a picturesque pine forest. The laying of the foundation stone took place in October 1995, and the ceremonial inauguration of the church took place on September 1, 1996.[1]
The two-story building made of red brick impresses with its idiosyncratic architecture, which appears both traditional and contemporary. Characteristic are the acute angles, the wall arches and the large glass front, which allows a wide view of the surrounding forest and the cemetery. These elements give the church an open and inviting atmosphere. In addition, the interior is designed in the shape of a quarter circle, which not only benefits the acoustics, but also creates a harmonious connection to nature. A small group room offers additional space for discussions and communal activities. [1]
The architect Dieter Bankert, who has a significant influence on modern architecture thanks to his training at the Bauhaus in Dessau, designed the church with the aim of creating a place of peace and reflection. The first documented mention of Abtsdorf as a village paying interest occurred in 1361, which underlines the long history and cultural significance of the place. This modern church reflects the heritage and contemporary interpretation of spirituality and community. [1]

Stories of the district
Before its incorporation on January 1, 2009, the population of Abtsdorf in 2007, including the two districts of Euper and Karlsfeld, was 1,383 residents. Due to a lack of employment opportunities, there is a lack of demand for housing construction and the number of people leaving the area is increasing. In the years between 2001 and 2007 alone there was a decline in population numbers of 9% due to increased migration and the birth deficit.
