Western Settlement

Wittenberg’s value of the old town was in danger. The old town center should be the most important focal point for the city complex in every design. The city's founding in 1183 means huge historical and cultural potential. The old town area with surrounding green areas meets almost all the needs of residents and users and should keep them in the area.
Currently, however, locations further out that are primarily used for residential purposes are sucking in residents and leaving the old town center to tourists. I propose an example of completing the overall spatial structure in the form of a structural development northwest of the old town. The development design for residential use offers a direct view of the old town by spatially integrating the project into the prevailing structure of the old town and extensions. Future developments are to be channeled by strengthening the visual relationships between the old town and the new structure and supporting pedestrian movements in all directions.
Access to the old town should also be improved and the proximity to the old town should be used as a location advantage. The possibility of realizing this value lies in the creation of a central green park. New settlements with a radial connection to the old town should be started and partial spatial axes should be continued in new spatial sequences right into the core. Crossings are to be created within the area by increasing commercial uses on the side of the green axis and by providing a high quality of stay in the middle.
