Read about the churches and their history
Boßdorf is a historic village whose church plays a central role in the community. The village church, a probably late Romanesque stone building from the 13th century, symbolizes the architectural development of the region over the centuries. After being destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars, the church was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century. Particularly striking is the bricked-up arched portal in the south wall, which points to the Romanesque origins of the building and thus underlines the historical significance of the church. [1]
The church experienced numerous events that shaped its history. It was badly damaged by French troops in 1813 and was only reopened in 1865 after extensive restoration. These restoration measures demonstrate the community's commitment to preserving its historical heritage. [1]
In 1926, a square west tower was added, enriching the church's silhouette. Major restoration work took place in the years 1963 to 1966, 1975 and 1983, which demonstrates the continuous care and preservation of the architectural heritage. The village of Boßdorf was probably founded by Dutch settlers after 1157 under the rule of Margrave Albrecht the Bear. This historical connection is reflected not only in the architecture of the church, but also in the cultural heritage of the community. Boßdorf is therefore a living testimony to times gone by. [1]
