The settlement church in Piesteritz is a remarkable example of the transition period from a simple village to an industrial settlement. Originally, Piesteritz was a small, insignificant village that barely appeared until the turn of the century. With rapid industrial growth, particularly through the construction of larger factories west of Wittenberg, the region experienced a huge increase in population. [1]
In 1916 the Piesteritz nitrogen works was opened, which marked the first step towards the establishment of a factory settlement. From 1922 onwards, many people lived here, mainly from southern Germany. Due to the high Catholic proportion, the settlement church was consecrated in May 1923 and is under the patronage of the Holy Family. This church is not only a place of faith, but also reflects the cultural influences of the time it was built. [1]
The architectural design of the church is neo-baroque and is based on the churches of southern Germany. The magnificent furnishings and the well-thought-out interior design testify to the effort to offer the newly arrived workers a space for their religious needs. The settlement church in Piesteritz therefore stands as a symbol of change and the integration of tradition and modernity within a dynamic social development. [1]
