Stories of the district
The Lerchenbergsiedlung in Wittenberg was designed as a suburban settlement in the 1930s. The original plan envisaged a village-like settlement with its own infrastructure, including shops, a mayor's office and a church. The aim was to give the residents a high level of autonomy and a strong sense of community.
A striking feature of the settlement's historical development is that the planned church was never built. Despite this unfinished planning, the Lerchenbergsiedlung has developed over time into a characteristic residential area that retains its own identity to this day.
