The small church in Dobien is an impressive example of Romanesque architecture, which impresses with its robust construction made of field stones and quarry stones. The flat-roofed plastered building has a three-sided east end, which gives it a characteristic shape. The square west tower with its octagonal top and the French hood as well as the lantern characterizes the village image. The church was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, but was rebuilt in 1683. Further destruction in 1813 led to a comprehensive restoration in 1820, as evidenced by an inscription. [1]
The interior is predominantly from around 1820 and includes a baroque altar wall with a five-sided pulpit and a horseshoe gallery decorated with Gothic decorative friezes. An organ and a panel painting of the Good Samaritan, which was probably created in the middle of the 19th century, complete the furnishings. The church also houses two pastor gravestones, dated 1769 and 1832. The first written mention of the town of Dobien dates back to 1182, when it was called Thobin. This eventful history makes the church an important cultural heritage of the region. [1]
